When Fred was contemplating a racing career, he was encouraged by his friend Don Ackner (#97). Don and the crew at Steve Wicks shop, Steve's Automotive, in West Sand Lake New York helped Fred get a car together in the early 80's. This was when Don and crew were quite busy staying on top of the Lebanon Valley and Albany Saratoga charts.
