The Back Story:
This car ran the Limited Sportsman Division at Lebanon in
these colors during the 1967-1968 seasons. It was powered by an inline 292 CI 6 Cylinder Chevy and
competed against the V8 Powered Late Models. Another 292 Chevy Powered coupe competing at
this same time was the black and white #53 owned by John DeBell and driven by
Larry Faulkner. The car was painted maroon on the "grandstand
side" and white on the "infield side" and numbered
"6". This color scheme was copied from a strong runner in the
Sportsman Division at Middletown at the time named Jack Zuidema.
The picture with the guys sitting on the car was taken in
the pits at the valley. The "trailer" photos were taken at
"Home". This car was
previously owned by Paul Dickenger and competed in the
Sportsman Division at the Valley during the 1965-1966 seasons as the Grey and
White #D22, with driver John Van Leuvan. This car has the distinction of having won, for the Dickenger/VanLeuvan
team, the longest race ever run at the Accord Speedway, a 200 Lapper run in 1965
or '66.
Sangaline sold this car to a person unknown to me at the
conclusion of the 1968 season. Rumor has it that the buyer of the car never
competed with it and that it has been stored to this day,
intact. Sure be a great find for a Vintage Racer. ~Mr. Aint
